Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Upper School Mathematics

Porter-Gaud School is an independent, Episcopal, coeducational day school for 940 students in grades 1 – 12. The School is seeking an Upper School Substitute Mathematics Teacher for a two week period starting from mid October to the beginning of November. The substitute will be responsible for instructing students in Algebra II, Honors Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB in accordance with the content and objectives of the curriculum prescribed by the Upper School division.

This teacher will supervise students in academic classes and will also maintain a homeroom. This teacher will demonstrate a commitment to the wellbeing of all Porter-Gaud students and to the best interests of the school as a whole.

Broad Responsibilities:

- Instructs students in mathematics to include Algebra II, Honors Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB in accordance with curriculum requirements and objectives, making effective use of technology, textbooks, and other instructional materials as appropriate.

- Establishes and actively maintains a class environment where excellence in learning is honored and where respectful interactions between and among students are valued.

- Works with students to develop a love for learning, a sense of academic integrity, and a thoughtful work ethic.

- Inspires a love of and appreciation for mathematics in our students.

- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and assessments which address multiple learning styles.

- Participates as an active team member within the Math Department and the Upper School faculty.

The successful candidate must have:

- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a degree or certification in field (Mathematics or Mathematics Education).

- Experience teaching high school mathematics preferred.

- Familiarity with the Common Core Standards for Mathematics.

- Fluency in the use of technology in the classroom.

- Appreciates and enjoys interacting with adolescents and partnering with families in their student's academic development.

- Shows evidence of organization, self-motivation, and punctuality.

- Shows evidence of effective communication and interaction with all constituencies within the school.

- Shows evidence of a willingness to contribute to the life of an independent school community.

Reporting: The Upper School Math Teacher will report directly to the Principal of the Upper School.

Salary: Daily rate, commensurate with experience.
