Congratulations to Our Honor Choir

5th graders Anna Lehman, Harper Rehmann, Ann Thompson, Jared Wilder, and 4th graders Renny Miles and Reese Wisner traveled to Chattanooga, TN to take part in the American Choral Directors' Association Treble Honor Choir March 9-12.

These six students, who were selected from hundreds of applicants from eleven southeastern states, spent three days rehearsing with the 130-voice choir under the direction of North Carolina's Tom Shelton at the historic Choo Choo Hotel in Chattanooga.  Prior to their departure, the students had worked hard with their teacher Todd Monsell to learn difficult music, including a Filipino piece in the Tagalog language.

On Saturday, March 12 at First Baptist Church in Chattanooga, the Treble Honor Choir gave an outstanding performance for a packed audience of choir directors, family, and friends.  Jared Wilder became the first Porter-Gaud student to earn a solo in an honor choir, singing the final notes of the Tom Shelton piece "One Voice."  It was a wonderful experience for all!  Congratulations to Anna, Harper, Ann, Jared, Renny, and Reese!

Dear Parents,
We have several important dates coming up in April!  From April 25th-29th, all Middle School students will take ERBs.  We administer the tests the first two periods of the day. Please make sure your child is on time, well-rested, and ready to do his/her best on the assessments!  All students take Math 1, Math 2, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension. Score reports are typically available and sent home the first week of June. All Middle School advisors will be contacting you this week to set up the upcoming Spring Conferences. We hope to see all of you on that day! Please understand that parents may only meet with advisors on this day.  Please don't hesitate to contact subject area teachers for meetings on a different day if need be!

Our Faculty-Student basketball game brought out our competitive spirit! Although there seemed to be some "creative" scorekeeping, the Middle School faculty pulled out the victory in the end.  More importantly, the school was able to donate an incredible amount of canned goods in time for Easter. Thank you to the 8th grade students and the Middle School faculty who played in the game.

Happy Spring!
Maureen

Spanish Class Fashion Show

Students in Ms. Cirpriani's Spanish classes recently created a line of clothing to present to Corte Ingles (a large store in Spain). They had to have a theme and each create an outfit for the theme (illustrate it, wear it, and describe it in the runway show). Then, the students 'judged' the group's creativity, walking style, and overall theme. They could add music for their runway show, too.  It was a fun day in Spanish class!

Pi Day

Students and faculty enjoyed our annual Pi Day and Randy Clark Birthday celebration!  We started our day with donuts and then had our Pi throwing during lunch.  Thank you to the brave faculty who volunteered!  All proceeds from the raffle tickets were donated to the Randall Clark Scholarship Fund.
