The Long-Term Sub for Upper School Math will be responsible for instructing students in a year-long Pre-calculus course and a semester-long College Algebra course in accordance with the content and objectives of the curriculum prescribed by the Upper School division. This Sub will supervise students in academic classes and will also maintain a homeroom. This Sub will demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of all Porter-Gaud students and to the best interests of the school as a whole.
Broad Responsibilities:
- Instructs students in mathematics to include a year-long Pre-calculus course and semester-long College Algebra course in accordance with curriculum requirements and objectives, making effective use of technology, textbooks, and other instructional materials as appropriate.
- Establishes and actively maintains a class environment where excellence in learning is honored and where respectful interactions between and among students are valued.
- Works with students to develop a love for learning, a sense of academic integrity, and a thoughtful work ethic.
- Inspires a love of and appreciation for mathematics in our students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and assessments which address multiple learning styles.
- Participates as an active team member within the Math Department and the Upper School faculty.
The successful candidate must have:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a degree or certification in field (Mathematics or Mathematics Education).
- Experience teaching high school mathematics preferred.
- Familiarity with the SC State Standards for Mathematics and Common Core Standards for Mathematics.
- Fluency in the use of technology in the classroom.

Reporting: The Upper School Math Teacher will report directly to the Mathematics Department Chair and Head of Upper School.
Salary: Daily rate, commensurate with experience.
